The Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force is pleased to announce the publication of Bringing Light to Motherhood: Community Provider Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit. A year in the making, the toolkit is an easy-to-use resource geared toward any health care provider or caregiver that interacts with new moms and moms-to-be. Over 100 pages are full of tips and advice on the risk factors, symptoms, prevention, screening, intervention and treatment of perinatal depression and related mood disorders. The toolkit also provides handouts that providers can distribute to patients, an exhaustive list of resources and information in Spanish. Pediatricians, OB/GYNs, primary health care providers, mental health professionals as well as community based providers such as health promotoras, early childhood professionals and case managers can use the toolkit to prevent and treat the millions of women suffering from perinatal mood disorders, not only in Los Angeles, but around the country as well.
