The Task Force's first Community Awareness Forum of 2012 was held on Friday May 11th in West Covina with forty-six professionals and community members in attendance. The forum was held in partnership with Assemblyman Roger Hernandez and Citrus Valley Medical Center. Juana Gutierrez, Cindy Cisneros and Ellie Berkowitz-Handler, PhD each spoke about their experiences with perinatal depression and anxiety. Gabrielle Kaufman, MA, BC-DMT, NCC provided an overview on the subject, including signs, symptoms and treatment options. Assemblymember Hernandez spoke about why the issue is important to him and his community. The mission of the Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force is to remove barriers to the prevention, screening and treatment of prenatal and postpartum depression in Los Angeles County. The Task Force is a project of 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor Community Partners.
